Yellow Shrimp

Yellow Shrimp are a colourful freshwater dwarf shrimp variety prized for their clean golden-yellow body colour and busy foraging behaviour. Best known in the hobby as a Neocaridina-type shrimp, they do especially well in mature planted aquariums where biofilm, moss, leaf litter and gentle filtration help them settle quickly. Their compact size and peaceful nature make them ideal for nano tanks, shrimp colonies and calm community aquariums with non-aggressive tank mates.

These shrimp are constantly active, grazing on surfaces, plants and décor throughout the day. In well-maintained aquariums, Yellow Shrimp can become an attractive clean-up crew for leftover food and soft algae films while also bringing bright contrast against dark substrate, green moss and aquascaping wood. They are suitable for aquarists who can provide stable parameters, regular maintenance and a predator-free environment.

Care Requirements

• Tank Size: A mature 10 gallon or larger tank is easier to keep stable, though colonies can be maintained in smaller nano setups with careful monitoring.
• Water Parameters: Ideal temperature is around 20 to 26°C with pH roughly 6.8 to 7.8. Stable GH, KH and low ammonia or nitrite are more important than chasing exact numbers.
• Diet: Feed quality shrimp food, algae wafers, blanched vegetables and occasional protein treats in small portions. They also graze on natural biofilm between feedings.
• Tank Mates: Best with other peaceful shrimp and snails. Avoid large fish, aggressive community fish and known shrimp predators that may hunt adults or shrimplets.
• Care Tips: Use sponge-covered filter intakes, provide moss or fine plants for cover, avoid sudden water changes and acclimate slowly before release.
• Breeding Note: In comfortable freshwater conditions, mature colonies may breed readily. Dense moss and a calm tank improve shrimplet survival.
