The Siamese Algae Eater, commonly known as SAE, is one of the most useful algae-eating freshwater fish for hobbyists dealing with stubborn growth on wood, rocks, plant leaves, and equipment. Unlike many so-called algae eaters, this species is valued for its active grazing behavior and is especially popular in planted aquariums and community tanks where black beard algae and hair algae can become a nuisance. Its streamlined body, constant movement, and practical tank role make it a smart choice for aquarists who want both function and personality.

This fish does best when kept in a well-maintained aquarium with open swimming space, gentle to moderate current, and plenty of resting areas among plants, driftwood, and decor.
